What is an MCP server?
+−
An MCP server is a program that lets an AI assistant such as Claude or ChatGPT use an outside system through the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard for connecting AI tools to data. The assistant asks the server for what it needs and the server answers from that system. Junction is an MCP server for construction software: it answers from your accounting and project systems.
What is Junction?
+−
Junction is a connector that lets Claude or ChatGPT answer questions from a contractor's accounting and project systems. You add one address to your AI tool, sign in, and ask in plain English, for example which jobs are over budget on labor this month. Junction fetches the figures from your own systems and returns them with the time they were last updated.
Which AI tools does it work with?
+−
Claude and ChatGPT, through their custom-connector feature (ChatGPT requires a plan with developer mode enabled by a workspace admin). Junction uses the Model Context Protocol, an open standard that lets AI assistants connect to outside tools and data.
Can the AI change my accounting data?
+−
No. Junction only ever issues read queries, built from a fixed, signed data model, and nothing in the connector can create, edit or delete a record. We also ask you to use database logins and API keys that have read permission only, as a second layer of protection.
Does it work with on-premise systems like Sage 300 CRE or Vista?
+−
That is a main purpose of it. For systems that cannot be reached from the internet, a small Junction agent runs on your own server and connects outward over HTTPS, so you open no inbound firewall ports. The agent only runs queries it builds itself from a signed data model; the cloud never sends it SQL.
Is payroll or employee data exposed to the AI?
+−
No. Payroll and personal records are excluded by default: they are refused in questions and filters and do not appear in the data catalogue the AI sees. You can also limit each person in your company to certain systems, kinds of data and jobs.
Do you run the AI model, and does it cost extra?
+−
We do not run any AI model. You use your own Claude or ChatGPT subscription, and any usage is billed by them. Junction only supplies the data when the assistant asks for it.
Where does my data go and is it stored?
+−
When you ask a question, Junction fetches just the rows needed from your system and returns them to your AI tool, passing through our servers in transit. Answers are not stored. We keep an audit log of who asked which tool and system and whether it succeeded, never the values asked for or returned. Systems read through the agent keep their working copy on your own machine.
Is there an MCP server for Viewpoint Vista, Sage 300 CRE or Foundation?
+−
Yes. Junction is an MCP server for construction systems including Viewpoint Vista, Trimble Spectrum, Sage 300 CRE, Foundation, CMiC, ComputerEase, QuickBooks Desktop, Autodesk Build and e-Builder. Each system is set up with you and checked against your own reports. One Junction connection covers all of your systems, so a single question can draw on several of them. The full list is on the systems page.
Which teams is Junction for?
+−
Anyone who needs answers from the company's systems: finance and accounting (job cost, billing, payables), project management (budgets, commitments, change orders, issues), operations and leadership (performance across all jobs), and owners' capital-program teams. Administrators decide which systems, kinds of data and jobs each person can reach.
Is Junction only for accounting systems?
+−
No. Accounting and job cost are where many teams start, but Junction is built to give AI assistants access to whichever system holds the answer: project management and scheduling (Primavera P6, Aconex, Autodesk Build), estimating, field and safety tools, general ERP, property management and CRM. Each person sees only the systems, kinds of data and jobs an administrator allows.
Which construction systems can it connect to?
+−
Vista, Spectrum, Foundation, Sage 300 CRE, ComputerEase, CMiC, QuickBooks Desktop, Autodesk Build and e-Builder, and widely used systems such as Primavera P6, Aconex, Fieldwire, Deltek Vantagepoint, Simpro and JD Edwards: 200 systems in all, across construction accounting and ERP, project management, estimating and field, general ERP, property and CRM. We set each one up with a customer who runs it, so that answers can be checked against their own reports.
How much does it cost?
+−
Pricing is quoted per company, based on the systems you run and how many people will use it. We set up each customer ourselves, so reach out to sales and we will give you a quote.
